Additive Manufacturing of Carbon Nanotube Metal Matrix Composites
Additive Manufacturing (AM) has been identified as a key technology in the future growth and reshoring of technology and manufacturing. SHEPRA and the University of Dayton have developed a carbon nanotube metal matrix composite with improved mechanical properties for use in Additive Manufacturing. Money will be used to scale up production of the carbon nanotube metal matrix materials for DoD and commercial applications, Train DoD / civilian personnel in AM and support DoD certification.

Community Details
Additive Manufacturing (AM) already plays a significant role in the Dayton Area community. From the production of medical devices (Tangible Solutions) to the productions of AM manufacturing systems (Open Additive), production of AM commercial components (BasTech), certification and qualification of AM components (MRL LLC) and the research of and maintenance and sustainment of Air Force Systems (Wright Patterson AFB). Carbon nanotube metal matrix materials and their improved mechanical properties can have a significant impact in all these applications and the economic growth of the market.
No funding in the past. First engagement with Congressman Turners office was in July 2021

Jobs will be created in the following ways

1. SHEPRA will expend its business in industrial base / supply chain consulting with a specific focus on Additive Manufacturing
2. SHEPRA will create a new business in the production of carbon nanotube metal matrix powders for sale to DoD and commercial markets
3. SHEPRA will create a new business to AM fabricate components for DoD and Commercial customers
4. SHEPRA and Partners will provide workforce development the designing (engineering) of components for AM and the operation of AM systems.
5. Supply of carbon nanotube metal matrix composites is expected to increase the commercial market capitalization of AM and create more jobs.
