3. Short description The DCC is an emergency resource center (2019 Oregon District Shooting, Tornado Evacuation Shelter, COVID Vaccination Hub, designated medical outbreak surge site.) A $40 million transformation is underway and aged generators and emergency electrical systems have been discovered that can no longer support Life Safety Systems needed for a proper, safe temporary shelter. Funds will be used to purchase and/or upgrade items detailed in the attached budget.

Community Details

40. Community Need The Dayton Convention Center is the only regional indoor facility that can house thousands of people and is identified as the community public safety venue during natural disasters (Red Cross, Salvation Army). In addition to its size and flexible spaces, reliable Life Safety systems are essential to provide cooling and heat, refrigeration for food and medicine, food preparation and serving amenities. Working with local health partners, the Dayton Convention Center can serve as a mass vaccination and public health outbreak surge site. It has also served as a strategic command and community-wide unification center for public safety emergencies.
