Growing the Greater Dayton Regional Additive Manufacturing Ecosystem
This project leverages $9.5 million current and prior DoD investment with several Dayton area organizations and develop several key proprietary Additive Manufacturing related technologies. Development of these technologies will provide these companies and the Dayton area with a strategic competitive advantage in the emerging market of Additive Manufacturing. This project will focus on materials development, Additive Manufacturing develop, qualification of materials and transfer of technology.

Community Details
This project addresses one of the critical needs in the post COVID economy, the reshoring of the manufacturing base to America. This project focuses on several aspects of the Additive Manufacturing value chain including raw materials, processing of materials, manufacture of Additive Manufacturing production systems, certification and qualification of Additvely Manufactured materials and transfer of the technology to service bureaus that can address defense and commercial needs. Implementation of this project will provide a competitive advantage to the greater Dayton regional Additive Manufacturing ecosystem
Parts of this project were recommended for funding by the DDC for the FY'23 congressional budget. No congressional funds were obtained.

This project would engage several companies in the existing greater Dayton regional Additive Manufacturing ecosystems and would require engaged of personnel from several Air Force Research Lab and Air Force Life Cycle Management Center directorates. In the end if successful a product line to Additively Manufacture the hypersonic thermal protection tiles and require manufacturing systems and raw materials made in the greater Dayton region. Most of these jobs would be experienced engineers with graduate level education.
