3. Short description West Memory Gardens in Moraine, Ohio seek funding assistance to help remediate flooding issues within the cemetery. The origin of the water causing the flooding comes from an agricultural field across the street from the cemetery. During period of heavy rainfall, the water needs to be better routed on cemetery property, down a swail and into a creek at the East side of the property line. Currently the water pools on the cemetery grounds with no path to the creek.

33. Other sources of funds StoneMor as a company has already spent in excess $300,000 in improvements to the location already. In 2020 and 2021, the company invested $207,000 to have a new box culvert installed to accommodate the volume of water flow onto the property. Additionally, as part of the same project, StoneMor paid to have the creek dredged, banks secured and trees removed from the creek as to increase the creek's ability to move water more quickly off the property. As a result of rushing water on the roadways of the cemetery, StoneMor has invested nearly 6-figures into roadway patch projects and materials to help keep the roads in as acceptable a condition as possible.
What is not taken into consideration are the lost revenue opportunities at the cemetery for the roughly 300+ gravesites unable to be sold or used due to the current conditions and flooding patterns during the periods of extreme rainfall.
StoneMor, Inc. anticipates an additional spend of $1M needed to finish the project. If awarded the $750,000, StoneMor, Inc. will contribute the remaining dollars needed to help remediate this issue.

Community Details

40. Community Need West Memory Gardens is a cemetery serving the communities of Moraine and Dayton, OH. The cemetery has been in existence since 1959. Currently, the cemetery is being adversely affected by water intrusion from a source that is not controllable by the cemetery. The cemetery has played no role in creating this problem, yet is now having to bear the brunt of family complaints and the emotional distress that comes with seeing the cemetery take on an excessive volume of water during specific seasons or during and after severe episodes of rainfall. The community deserves to have a cemetery that they can be proud of, as well as a place of peace, free from any external factors such as flooding.
