Quality of Life
Gloria Theatre Renovation Project
The Gloria Theatre Renovation Project has been divided into four stages. We completed Stage 1 and are currently working on Stage 2, titled Patron Care Improvement. The primary goals of Stage 2 are to improve the facility and increase services for the comfort and satisfaction of patrons and to increase revenue. The requested funding will allow us to add additional services, make operational improvements and infrastructure renovations as we continue preserving this historic community treasure.

Community Details
The mission of the GrandWorks Foundation is to Reach, Restore and Revive our community by redeveloping and transforming the Gloria Theatre into a platform for social, spiritual, cultural and economic growth for Champaign and the surrounding counties. The Gloria is the only movie theatre and performing arts center in Champaign county, serving almost 39,000 people. In addition, we serve residents of Clark and Logan counties which include another 179,300 residents.

For those people who consider Urbana and the surrounding communities their home, the Gloria Theatre offers a state-of-the art movie experience and the potential to be a modern, fully equipped performing arts center and civic center. Renovations as well as new construction to expand the building, upgrade theatrical and live event capabilities, will bring exciting entertainment to the area and stir a reawakening of performing arts and tourism. To keep our youth in the area as they pursue their careers and raise families, we need modern facilities for business networking, idea generation and celebrations.

GrandWorks partners with a growing number of organizations including economic development offices, senior centers, hospitals, public libraries, private and public schools, chambers and organizations that serve citizens with disabilities. We are coordinating intern and work study programs with educational facilities like Urbana University, Wright State University and Wittenburg as well as vocational schools. The local economy will be positively impacted as the theatre draws increasing numbers of tourists into the area with live entertainment events, movies, conferences and educational programs.

The success of the Gloria Theatre Renovation Project can be tracked in a variety of ways. 1. Number of visitors to the theatre (Gloria Theatre) 2. Increased tourism (Chamber of Commerce) 3. Number of students and adults who we are providing with on-the-job training (Gloria Theatre). We would anticipate seeing all of those numbers increase as we expand our facilities.

With the renovations and new construction that this project requires, it offers not only increased job opportunities to contractors but an increase in the jobs within the GrandWorks Foundation.

We have a proposed organizational structure modeled after established foundations as well as our future anticipated needs as a performing arts and civic center. As we expand our capabilities, we will be able to fill these positions as we experience increased revenue.
