(SPRINGFIELD, Ohio) – Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, Lt. Governor Jon Husted, and Major General William Cooley, Commander of the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, announced today that the Ohio Unmanned Aircraft Systems Center and AFRL will begin testing groundbreaking aviation technology at the Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport.

The Farnborough International Airshow is a week-long, biennial event that combines a major trade exhibition for the aerospace and defense industries with a public airshow. The event is held in mid-July in even-numbered years at Farnborough Airport in Hampshire, United Kingdom. The first five days (Monday to Friday) are dedicated exclusively to trade, with the final two days open to the public.

When Dayton community leaders conducted their first fly-in to Washington in 1984, the U.S. military was engaged in what proved to be the last big modernization surge of Cold War years.

The Air Force was buying hundreds of new fighters each year, not to mention two different bombers.

Every facet of military spending was increasing, and by the end of the 1980s employment at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base topped 30,000.

But then the Cold War ended.

DENVER— A team of Ohio’s Unmanned Aerial Systems experts arrived at XPONENTIAL 2018 Tuesday, ready to share why the Buckeye State’s UAS industry continues to grow and thrive.

The global conference by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) marks one of the industry’s leading gatherings, featuring more than 600 companies in 20 UAS-related industries. An expected 8,000 industry professionals from 55 countries will attend the three-day event.
