Historic Sidney Theatre Restoration - Phase II
Since 1921, the Historic Sidney Theatre has been an anchor of downtown. In 2009, Raise the Roof for the Arts (RTR) purchased the building with the mission to “renovate and operate the Historic Theatre for cultural, artistic and educational purposes for the benefit of the broader community”. Over the past 14 years, RTR has renovated much of the theatre. The goal of this phase is to stabilize the building, setting the stage for upper story renovations that will increase seating to 900.

Community Details
The Historic Sidney Theatre serves as the entertainment anchor for historic downtown and the anchor for the arts community of Sidney and Shelby County. While RTR has made great strides in the restoration of an impressive performing arts facility, additional funding is necessary to attain long-term sustainability for this anchor facility. By stabilizing the roof and exterior of the building, RTR can focus on efforts to increase the seating capacity to 900. This attracts more people to historic downtown, which is critical to the sustainability of RTR. It is also a vital element of the community’s long-term economic development strategy.
The Historic Theatre is not only a key downtown entertainment anchor, but it is also vital to the community’s Economic Development Placemaking Strategy (Sidney Downtown & Riverfront Development Strategy - 2020 CityVisions). As a regional manufacturing employment center, placemaking is important to meeting the employee needs of the growing industrial base in Sidney, Shelby County and the West Central Ohio Region.
